Explore Clondalkin to find there’s a story around every corner of this historic Dublin town
This audio guide will bring you on a journey through the historic Dublin town of Clondalkin. We will encounter echoes of the past that is so present here in Clondalkin, and we will hear the stories of the people who helped to shape the town. Throughout the ages, the community spirit, strength and warmth of the people have helped to make the town a special place to live and visit.
Today Clondalkin is a suburban satellite town, situated just 10km from Dublin City Centre, however despite its proximity to the capital, the town has always retained its own unique character. The town is situated on the banks of the River Camac, one of the four tributaries of the Liffey, and the river has played a key role in its history. Clondalkin rose to prominence with the foundation of a monastery in around 600 AD. The monastery is associated with St Cronán, who is also known as St Mochua. He is commemorated in the town with many places and sporting clubs named in his honour. This audio guide includes stories about the centuries old Round Tower, St John’s Church, St Brigid’s Holy Well and Tully’s Castle.
