Story-Sharing event for Tipperary Town and Environs Heritage Audit

Exploring the rich heritage of Tipperary town.

Abarta Heritage will host a free story-sharing event in Tipperary Town on Wednesday the 11th of August at 7 pm.

All are welcome to join this relaxed meeting where we will discuss the audit and invite the community to share their memories and stories of the town. If you would like to join us, please register here.

The event begins at the clock tower beside Tipperary Excel Heritage Co Ltd. Afterwards, we will take a stroll around the town centre to share stories and memories. This could be remembering the old fairs that once took place on the streets of the town or memories of families who once lived above the shops. Whatever the information is, we are keen to hear about it.

Besides hearing stories of the town’s fantastic history, it is hoped that the story-sharing evening will be an opportunity for the community to highlight aspects of heritage that is important to them.

This event is part of a larger project called the Tipperary Town and Environs Heritage Audit. The project is being conducted by Abarta Heritage on behalf of the Tipperary Town Revitalisation Task Force and is funded by the South Tipperary Development Company under the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme.

Since May 2021, Abarta Heritage has been conducting a desk-based audit of the built, natural and cultural heritage assets and resources of Tipperary town and its immediate environs. The information gathered from the audit will form an easy to use database, which will assist in creating a greater awareness, knowledge and civic pride in the town’s heritage. The audit will also include recommendations on developing interpretative, educational and heritage resources for local people and visitors to the area.
